Ronaldo Shouldn’t Have Made United Move Says Former Teammate

Written By Jacobs Dunga
Cristiano Ronaldo over the summer made a surprising return to Old Trafford where he previously had six successful years but his latest adventure seems not to be going as expected.
More Details
After three seasons with Juventus where he won two league titles, the Coppa Italia and the Super Coppa Italiana, Cristiano Ronaldo left the record Italian champions to rejoin Manchester United where he first made name for himself in his early years.

Ronaldo was on course to team up with city rivals Manchester City before former teammate Rio Ferdinand and his former boss Sir Alex Ferguson intervened.
The 37 year old started brightly by scoring on his second debut against Newcastle United and went on to score a few more especially in the Champions League.
However, in recent weeks, the Portugal captain has been accused in some quarters of being the problem in the struggling United team despite a return of 14 goals in 26 appearances thus far.
Former United defender Paul Parker reckons Ronaldo’s return hasn’t worked out the way everyone envisaged it and that the world record goal scorer shouldn’t have returned to the 20-time English champions.
“It hasn’t worked out Ronaldo’s way, but what was he looking for?”, Parker told bettors.
“There’s no guarantee that he was gonna come back to Man United and because he’s come back, they’re gonna walk away with the league and it was all going to be about him, everyone just saying that Ronaldo’s won them the league.
“That wasn’t going to happen. United weren’t in that shape to go and do that. So surely he must’ve known that when he signed that it wasn’t going to happen.
“Common sense surely would have told him that one player isn’t going to change the team. One player, who’s 37 years old, isn’t gonna change that much.”
Ronaldo was made to play only 22 minutes of their draw away to Burnley and it was the fourth time he had had to start from the bench all four of which have ended in draws.
The five time Ballon d’Or winner stormed down the tunnel at the conclusion of the game with Parker saying his struggles started since the departure of former coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
“He [Ronaldo] has gone back to a club that he loves, a club that loves him and it hasn’t worked out,” he added. “Management changes and one of the reasons why the management changed so quickly from when he arrived, is because he arrived.
“He doesn’t arrive, United start the season they way they kind of finished it with Cavani – how he made such a difference, the players liked him because of his unselfish runs, his workrate, the way he was around the box, the goals he scored.
“It all changed. Football changed at Man United when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left. Not that he was hundred percent but there was something that had been built from the backend of the previous season.”
United are currently fifth on the Premier League table having played two games more than Arsenal and Tottenham who’re just three points behind in sixth and seventh place respectively while West Ham sit fourth with a point advantage over the Red Devils having played a game more.
Meanwhile…
With Champions League football looking unlikely next season, Ronaldo has been tipped for a move to PSG to team up with his former coach at Real Madrid Zinedine Zidane who is being touted to replace current coach Mauricio Pochettino at the Paris club in the summer.
PSG already have have the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar in their ranks with Mbappe also on the list of the star studded side.

Ronaldo could be moving to France should the Paris club appoint Zinedine Zidane with Parker being against such move as he feels they already have more than enough and shouldn’t activate such option if they’re are to compete at the highest level on a regular basis.
“A Ronaldo and Neymar in the same side. Christ! That could be temperamental. It’s a great thing to throw out I suppose”, Parker added about the transfer links.
“If you’re playing FIFA, you don’t have to mix them any more. It could actually be there for you. Neymar, Messi and Ronaldo in a team, rather than you try to transfer them from every way, you have them right there from your TV set, in a PSG kit. They’ll be grateful, all the FIFA players.
“With [Lionel] Messi being there, I don’t know if they’re looking [to get Ronaldo] to sell the club more. I think they need a bit more than that. If PSG are going down the showbiz road and doing it to sell tickets and shirts, then fine. But I think their fans would really like to challenge consistently, for the Champions League.
“It doesn’t seem right to me. PSG, they should be a little bit more forward thinking than that. If you’re a PSG fan, it’s not just you would say ‘that’s incredible’. You would want more, specially in the way when you look at PSG, they don’t need too many superstar players as such.”
There’s however not been any talks by the Portuguese leaving his current employers neither has PSG registered an interest.
