Russia/Ukraine Dispute: The Klitschko Brothers Ready To Go To War For Ukraine

With things getting intensed between Russia and Ukraine at the moment, the world are throwing the weights behind Ukraine with many ready to support the country with as much as possible fire power in attempt to help them defend their territory against the aggressive Russian leader with many citizens also volunteering to join the Ukrainian Forces and the one that has got the world talking is the Klitschko brothers.

Former heavyweight boxing champion Vitali Klitschko said he would take up arms alongside his brother and fellow world beater, Wladimir, to fight in a “bloody war” following Russia’s invasion of their home country Ukraine. Both have won a string of world heavyweight fights.

Russia launched its invasion by land, air and sea on Thursday. An estimated 100,000 people have fled as explosions and gunfire rocked major cities. More than 100 have been reported killed.


Vitali Klitschko now 50, mayor of Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, since 2014, he was ready to fight.

Vitali told ITV News that the people of Kyiv have weapons and have become ‘soldiers ready to defend our city’.

‘I have to do that.’

Vitali Klitschko said Kyiv was under threat and the main priority was to work with police and military forces to support critical infrastructure, including the delivery of electricity, gas and water for its citizens.He said civilians were ready to defend Kyiv as soldiers.


Former heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko wrote in a tweeted his support for his country Ukraine on Thursday: ‘The Ukrainian people are strong. And it will remain true to itself in this terrible ordeal,’ he wrote.

‘A people longing for sovereignty and peace. ‘A people who consider the Russian people their brothers. ‘It knows that they basically do not want this war.’

The 45-year old signed up for the reserve army earlier this month.

In 2011, the Klitschko brothers entered the Guinness World Records as the pair of brothers with most world heavyweight title fight wins – 30 at the time.
