More Details

The transfer of Conor Gallagher to Atlético de Madrid is reportedly worth €42 million to Chelsea, taking the Metropolitan club’s summer spree to €182.5m following deals for Robin Le Normand and Alexander Sorloth and Julian Alvarez from Manchester City, it looks as if it could be Atletico’s second biggest ever summer in terms of spending.

As part of the deal, Joao Felix is expected to join Chelsea. Gallagher had been courted by Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa, but opted to sign with Atlético de Madrid just before the deadline for their offer.

Gallagher had already agreed to personal terms with Atlético de Madrid weeks prior, but the transfer was delayed after Chelsea ended their pursuit of the club’s forward, Samu Omorodion. The 24-year-old had been in Madrid, awaiting the completion of his move before returning to the UK. This uncertainty cast a shadow over the deal.

Chelsea on the other hand has reportedly completed the signing of Portuguese forward Joao Felix, their ninth senior addition of the summer. This move freed up funds for the transfer of Conor Gallagher, who became only the second English international to play for Atlético de Madrid, following his Three Lions teammate Kieran Trippier.

Gallagher has made 95 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea since joining the club at the age of eight. With Reece James sidelined due to injury, the midfielder frequently served as captain last season, helping the team recover from a disappointing start under Mauricio Pochettino and secure European football.
