Salem Al Dawsari Wins Top Prize In Asia

Saudi Arabian international Salem Al Dawsari has been declared as the best AFC player for the year 2023.
The 32 year old had a memorable year where he won the King’s Cup with his club while also reaching the final of the AFC Champions League.
He was the star of the Green Falcons of Saudi Arabia at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar where he scored against Argentina and Mexico.
He delivered a speech showing appreciation to the football federation, his club and his family.
“I am very happy with this achievement and I would like to thank the leadership in Saudi Arabia for their keen interest in athletes and support for sport,” 32-year-old Al-Dawsari said, according to a report on the AFC website.
“I also want to thank the Saudi Football Federation, Al-Hilal, the Saudi national team, as well as the fans. Of course, I am grateful to my parents and wife, who is my No. 1 supporter.” He concluded.
He becomes the sixth Saudi Arabian player and the fifth from Al Hilal to win the coveted award, both of which are records since the inception of the award in 1994.

Sam Kerr won the women equivalent of the award at the awards ceremony.
The Chelsea and Australian forward was named ahead of two other nominees for her exploits for both club and country.

Sam Kerr helped Australia to the semi finals of the last women World Cup where they finished fourth.
She becomes the first Australian player man or woman to win the Asian top price on more than one occasion.
