San Diego FC’s Roster Change: Löffelsend Moves On

San Diego FC announced on Wednesday that they have mutually agreed to terminate the contract of defender Jasper Löffelsend.

The 27-year-old German defender had a notable inaugural season with San Diego, recording a career-high three assists in 13 appearances.

Löffelsend was acquired by the club in the 2024 MLS Expansion Draft last December. Löffelsend’s MLS career spans three-and-a-half seasons.
Before joining San Diego FC, he played collegiately at the University of Pittsburgh and was drafted by Real Salt Lake, where he made 51 regular-season appearances between 2022 and 2023. In 2024, he played for the Colorado Rapids.

Despite Löffelsend’s departure, San Diego FC, often called “The Chrome and Azul,” is having a remarkably successful expansion season.
San Diego FC are currently leading the Western Conference with 42 points from 13 wins, 6 losses, and 3 draws.
