San Diego Wave Part Ways with Founding Goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan
San Diego Wave FC have made a major roster move after announcing the mutual contract termination of founding goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan, bringing an end to a four-year spell with the club.
More Details
Sheridan joined the Wave ahead of their inaugural 2022 NWSL season and went on to make 87 appearances across all competitions.
She played a key role in the club’s historic 2023 NWSL Shield-winning campaign, recording nine clean sheets during the season.
“Kailen has been an integral part of this club since day one,” Wave sporting director Camille Ashton said in a statement on Monday.

“We thank her for the contributions to this club and this city and wish her the best in the next chapter of her career.”
While San Diego now begin the search for a new first-choice goalkeeper, the club also signalled a focus on the future with the signing of Florida State defender Mimi Van Zanten.
The 20-year-old arrives after winning her second NCAA championship in three seasons and has already built international experience through youth involvement with the United States Women’s National Team before committing to the Jamaica women’s senior national team.

“Her championship experience and ability to contribute on both sides of the ball make her a strong addition to the Wave,” Ashton said.
San Diego Wave have developed a reputation for an aggressive and ambitious approach in the transfer market.
However, the decision to move on from a key figure in their 2023 Shield-winning core raises questions about the club’s direction as they reshape the squad ahead of the next NWSL campaign.
