The Scotland international has been voted as 18th place in the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings, after an impressive first season under Antonio Conte. He joined the Neapolitan side from Premier League giants Manchester United last summer and has since become one of the best players in Serie A.
After the rewards of last season, he got nominated for the Ballon d’Or for the first time and now, he has finished in 18th place, also the highest ranked Serie A player, as revealed through the award’s official X (Twitter) account and two Inter Milan stars make up the rest for the league.
McTominay signed for Napoli last summer for a reported fee of around €30m – and played 36 times last season across Serie A and Coppa Italia, scoring an impressive 13 goals and picking up an additional six assists and that fee paid is proving to be a bargain, considering the output.
This season, he has already found the back of the net once in their 2-0 opening game win against Sassuolo. Meanwhile, Inter Milan captain and Argentina forward Lautaro Martinez has finished in 20th place while his teammate, Denzel Dumfries finished 25th to round up for the Serie A.
It was the Argentine’s fourth nomination for the prestigious award, with ‘El Toro”s highest finish in 7th place last year. Now, as has been revealed, the Inter forward has finished in 20th place in the 2025 edition, seeing him drop several players from the previous edition.
This follows a strong season in which he helped Inter reach the final of the Champions League for the second time in three seasons and finish in second place in Serie A but he still slipped down 13 places to just 20t, but then, it was an overwhelming season for the club as whole.
They finished trophy-less for the first time in five years, and Martinez scored 24 goal in the 2024, compared to just 12 last season. Furthermore, the Argentine helped his national side lift Copa America, helped Inter lift the Scudetto and was named Serie A footballer of the year and Serie A MVP.

However, four nominations in five years is good going for the Inter striker and he will be hoping to be included inn the list next year and even do better than he has and probably get to eventually win the prestigious award which has eluded the league in recent years.as has been revealed through the award’s official X account
In a related development, Roma legend and former Milan coach Vincenzo Montella, who is currently in charge of the Turkish national team has hailed Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu for his impact for both club and country after a summer of uncertainty that surrounded him.
Speaking to Sky Sport, Montella was full of praise for his central-midfielder but acknowledged “last year he had a few too many physical problems – small issues but constant ones. Now he’s finding consistency and he scored two extraordinary goals against Juventus.” He said.
“I think he’s having a superlative performance with Inter and the national team.” He continued. Montella spent ten years at Roma, playing over 250 times for the Giallorossi and scoring 101 goals and helped them lift the Scudetto in the 2000-2001 season and was part of the Italy squad that finished as runners-up at Euro 2000.
Speaking about his old club and the arrival of Gian Piero Gasperini as head coach in the summer, Montella said “They have many young players and a champion like Dybala. They’re equipped with a fast and technical attack with Soulé, but also players with physical presence.” He continued.

“They certainly have plenty of room for improvement.” Montella added that “Roma have started a journey with Gasperini and playing every 3-4 days will help, it can accelerate the adaptation process.” He spent 3 months in charge of Roma himself as interim coach in the second-half of the 2010-11 season, winning seven of his 16 games at the helm.
