Serena Williams’ Wimbledon Tease

Written by Oluwaseun Oyediji
Speculation has abounded in tennis circles this week, as insiders try to piece together hints about Serena Williams’ future.
More Details
Williams has not played a match since leaving Wimbledon last year with an injury.
Things seemed to be moving in one direction when Williams’ longtime coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, announced that he’s begun working with Simona Halep full-time.
Mouratoglou had not coached full-time in the period since Williams’ injury, but he wrote on social media how much he’s missed it.
Halep practiced with Mouratoglou ahead of Indian Wells and asked him to become her coach, but “it was out of the question at the time.”
“A few weeks later, I had a conversation with Serena, and the door opened for me, at least short term, to work with someone else,” Mouratoglou continued.
Obviously, the switch led many to think Williams won’t be competing anytime soon and is possibly considering retirement.

However, the tennis legend teased a possible Wimbledon comeback on Thursday, in a story on her Instagram.
At a Bitcoin conference, Williams referenced Aaron Rodgers, who was also in attendance.
“We’ve been talking about my comeback,” she says in the video. “He’s been hyping me up and getting me ready for Wimbledon.”
Showing surprise at the mention of Wimbledon, Rodgers mentions her playing in the U.S. Open. Williams replies: “Wimbledon is before the U.S. Open. I’ve got to play Wimbledon first!”
Meanwhile…
Any more time on the court with the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) will make fans happy, and Williams’ return to Wimbledon would be welcome news.
Retirement is inevitable, and as Williams eases out of the sport, we could see even more of a shift in the women’s tennis landscape.
