Serie A Club Clarifies Position On Tax Fraud As Juventus Look To Poach Napoli Midfielder

Serie A club, Hellas Verona have come out to deny that they are under investigation for tax fraud insisting there have been no searches at the club’s headquarters, but they ‘spontaneously’ provided documents related to a sponsorship deal.

Several sources in Italy claimed that Verona and their President Maurizio Setti had been put under investigation for suspected tax fraud. The Gialloblu clarified their position with an official statement on Wednesday afternoon.

“The Guardia di Finanza is investigating a third-party company and not Hellas Verona,” the club said. “There have been no searches at the club’s headquarters or elsewhere.

“The club spontaneously provided their financial documents related to rapports with the company mentioned above, which consist of only three invoices from four years ago. The complaint is still being verified and could be worth circa €50,000.

“In any case, we categorically rule out that the object of fiscal documents are related to sponsorship deals, which nobody ever mentioned.” The statement further read.

The midfield crisis beguiling Juventus is well known and the Bianconeri are on the look out for a player that can add quality to their squad to make up for the absence of Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagiolo. The club director, Cristiano Giuntoli wants to reunite with Napoli midfielder André-Frank Zambo Anguissa at Juventus, but the Cameroon international has a €45m clause which is only valid for clubs outside Serie A.

Giuntoli signed Anguissa at Napoli in 2021 on an initial loan deal with an option to buy from Fulham. The Partenopei only spent €500,000 for the midfielder’s one-season loan and quickly made his transfer permanent in the summer of 2022 for €15.5m.

Now, according to reports, Giuntoli wants to reunite with Anguissa in Turin, but Napoli are unwilling to sell the 28-year-old to their harshest rivals. Moreover, Anguissa has a €45m clause in his contract with the Partenopei, which is only valid for clubs outside Serie A. According to the report, Juventus have already sounded out the midfielder’s availability.

But the defending Serie A champions are unwilling to send him to Turin. There are other names on the list including, but it’s very obvious that Anguissa will be a big upgrade and would definitely raise the quality of the team, but first, they will have to convince the Partenopei to sell first.
