Seven players contributed assists and five different individuals found the back of the net, including Tom Barlow, who notched his first MLS hat trick. This commanding victory helped Gregg Berhalter’s squad climb back into playoff contention.

In his season debut, Barlow shined in Washington, D.C., scoring his first career MLS hat trick with goals in the 30th, 44th, and 65th minutes, dominating the home team throughout the match.
“I did think about it for a second. It did pop in my head,” shared Barlow about the potential of notching a hat trick. “I thought it would be nice to get that third one, and when it went in, I was very happy.
“Most importantly, though, we got the win.”
Barlow’s hat trick is a significant milestone for the Fire, as it’s the first time a player has scored three goals in a single game since Nemanja Nikolić did so on October 15, 2017, in a match against the Philadelphia Union at SeatGeek Stadium.

“I remember watching him for the Fire – he was obviously an incredible goal scorer,” Barlow told reporters at Audi Field. “To be the first to do it since him is pretty special.”
Chicago Fire’s offense is on fire, scoring 35 goals in 16 matches to claim the second-most potent attack in MLS.
This impressive feat was achieved even without key players such as Belgian striker Hugo Cuypers, with only Inter Miami’s star-studded squad, including Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, having scored more.
