Sevilla FC have today announced the appointment of Francisco Javier García Pimienta as the new first-team head coach for the upcoming season.

More Details

Hailing from Barcelona, García Pimienta boasts a deep-rooted history with the Catalonian giants. He began his playing career at their famed youth academy, eventually reaching the senior team in the 1995/96 season. A serious injury cut his playing time short, but his dedication to the club continued.

García Pimienta seamlessly transitioned into coaching, starting as a youth coach at FC Barcelona in 2001. He diligently worked his way up the ranks, leading various youth teams to success. In 2017, he achieved a significant milestone, winning the UEFA Youth League title with the U19 team (Juvenil A). Shortly after, he returned to Barcelona B, this time as head coach.

For the next three seasons, García Pimienta guided Barcelona B in the Segunda División B (third tier). Although they narrowly missed promotion in his first two seasons, his leadership and strategic approach were evident.

After 28 years with FC Barcelona, García Pimienta decided to embark on a new challenge.

His coaching prowess shone through as he successfully guided Las Palmas to a respectable 16th-place finish, ensuring their place in La Liga for another season.

“We’re excited to welcome him on board and witness his coaching prowess lead our team to success”, the club stated.

Óliver Torres, a pillar of Sevilla FC for the past five years has been honored with a heartfelt farewell ceremony in the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán’s Director’s Box. With only Jesús Navas and Lucas Ocampos boasting more appearances for the club among the current first-team squad, Óliver’s departure marks a significant loss.

The timing of the ceremony clashed with the off-season break for many players, including Óliver’s close friend Sergi Gómez, who’s still in mid-season. However, Joan Jordán, a fellow member of the “Petit Comité” formed during their triumphant 2019/20 Europa League campaign, stood by his side, demonstrating the strong bond within the squad.

While some teammates couldn’t be physically present, many sent video messages expressing their gratitude to Óliver and well wishes for his future endeavors. Club President, José María del Nido Carrasco, echoed these sentiments during his remarks, highlighting Óliver’s unwavering loyalty throughout his time at Sevilla.

In a touching display of emotion, Óliver opted to speak from the heart rather than relying on prepared notes during his farewell speech. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication after giving his all to the club for the past five years. Now, at 29, he embarks on a new chapter, carrying with him unforgettable memories from his time as a Sevilla FC stalwart.
