Even if he still has two years left on his contract with the club, an exit at the slightest opportunity seems inevitable and as we approach the winter transfer window, more suitors are expected to join the race for his signature even if it seems like the Nerazzurri are no longer interested.

The former RB Leipzig forward pushed to join Inter in the summer transfer window, but Cristian Chivu’s side failed to match La Dea’s €50m asking price. Hence, Lookman was frozen out of the team in August, but has recently made his first appearances with La Dea.

Recently, another Serie A club was linked with a move for him and now, it seems like another club within the league will join the race as his relationship with Atalanta is said to be in tatters and almost irreparable after he removed every trace of the club from his social media accounts.

Now, former Serie A striker Nicola Ventola feels that Roma will try to sign him in January, which will reunite him with his former coach, Gian Piero Gasperini. Ventola, a former Serie A striker for Inter, Atalanta and Bari, among others made the prediction about the Giallorossi.

Given that the former Atalanta coach has not received the reinforcements he hoped for last summer, Ventola believes the club from the eternal city will try to reunite Lookman with his former coach in the capital. “I think they’ll try. Lookman can change the team,” he told Viva El Futbol podcast.

“If you have Lookman on one side and Soulé on the other, then Dovbyk would not struggle that much. I think Gasperini isn’t happy with what he has. He’s working, but his objective is to improve the team with more suitable players for his playing style. This is not his team.” He continued.

Then former defender, Lele Adani added: “Roma, if they can, must make an outstanding sacrifice to sign Lookman because I’m convinced they’ll remain up there until January.” He continued in his assessment of the team under a new manager after the disappointment of last season.

It remains to be seen whether Roma will be able to make a big investment in a new signing in January, as recent reports claimed that they need to rack up €90m to stick to Financial Fair Play rules and they were very close to selling Manu Kone to Inter during the summer transfer window.

They’re the joint-table leaders in Serie A with Napoli, having collected 15 points in the opening six games of the season, but their biggest title challenge will come when football action resumes next week as they host Inter at the Stadio Olimpico after the international break.

In a related development, Francesco Totti feels that Como’s Nico Paz is the most exciting talent in Serie A and the Roma legend praised young talent who has scored three goals and provided as many assists in six Serie A games as his club resisted many offers for him in the summer.

“Let’s say that at the moment, there aren’t many Italian talents,” Totti told Skills Crew. “The only one I’m watching, even if he’s not Italian, is Nico Paz. He intrigues me so much.” The former striker also argued that the race for the title in Serie A will involve more than just two teams:

“I think there will be more teams able to compete with Napoli this season. It seems a more balanced season, with multiple contenders.” Lastly, he wished his former Italy teammate Gennaro Gattuso good luck ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifying games.

“I think it’s necessary to wish Gattuso good luck, but the same goes for the entire national team, with the hope that they’ll manage to bring us back to the World Cup,” Totti concluded as Italy prepares to face Estonia away from home in their next game and badly in need of a win too.
