Sofia Huerta Joins Ownership Group Of USL Super League Side Athletic Club Boise

Seattle Reign veteran Sofia Huerta is adding another title to her résumé — club owner.
More Details
The forward has joined the ownership group of Athletic Club Boise, an incoming USL Super League side set to debut in 2027.
Huerta, an Idaho native, expressed pride in investing in a project close to home that aims to grow the game for future generations.
“Soccer has given me so much, and this club is building something that will give those opportunities to others,” Huerta said in a Tuesday press release.
“The foundation Athletic Club Boise is laying — with the men’s team in 2026 and the women’s Gainbridge Super League team in 2027 — makes me proud to invest in the future of soccer here at home.”
A First for the NWSL
Huerta becomes the first active National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) player to directly invest in a USL Super League franchise, a newly formed professional women’s soccer league sanctioned as a Division I competition alongside the NWSL.
The move reflects a growing trend of players taking ownership stakes in women’s football projects.

Several of Huerta’s Seattle Reign teammates — Lauren Barnes, Jess Fishlock, and Olivia Van der Jagt — made similar moves last year when they invested in Salmon Bay FC, a Washington-based USL W League team.
The Bigger Picture
Athletic Club Boise plans to launch its men’s team in 2026, followed by the women’s side in 2027, positioning itself as a key player in Idaho’s emerging soccer landscape.
Huerta’s involvement not only strengthens the club’s ties to the local community but also highlights the increasing influence of players in shaping the future of the sport — both on and off the field.
