For the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) fans, 2022 will be remembered as the Year of Sophia Smith.

The 22-year-old capped a career-best year with a final win: United States (U.S.) Soccer Female Player of the Year.
Smith is the youngest player to win the award since Mia Hamm in 1994.
Smith had a team-high 11 goals in 2022, as well as 14 for the Portland Thorns.
