Spain Retain FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup As Nigeria Clinch Historic Bronze Medal

The Spanish U-17 Women’s team on Sunday pipped Colombia 1-0 to retain the 2022 FIFA Women’s World Cup in India.

Nigeria had defeated Germany in a dramatic third place which served as a curtain raiser to the final match with a six-goal after 90 minutes.
The final game between the 2018 Champions, Spain, and Colombia didn’t go that way.
The first half was a cagey affair without any goal as both sides sized themselves up.
In the 82nd minute, the breakthrough goal of the final came.

A cross from the right wing was guided into the net by Colombia’s Ana Guzman into her own net beyond the reach of goalkeeper, Luisa Agudelo.
Spain tried to double its lead before full-time and even had an attempt hit the bar.
The Spanish side held on to clinch the title.

Goals from Opeyemi Ajakaye, Aminat Bello, and Edidiong Etim had given Nigeria a 3-0 lead but Germany recovered to score three goals before full time to take the game into penalties.
Jella Veit, Paulina Bartz, and Loreen Bender scored to take the game into penalties.
Nigeria prevailed 2-3 on penalties to become Africa’s second team to win a bronze medal at the tournament since Azerbaijan in 2012.
