Spanish Super Cup: Spanish Football Federation Set To Continue Partnership With Saudi Arabia

Despite controversies that has surrounded the Spanish Super Cup not been played in Spain, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have turned a deaf hear to fans’ outcry as they are set to sign a five years partnership extension with Saudi Arabia to continue to host the grand showpiece.

Ahead of the final dubbed ‘El-classico’ showpiece between Barcelona and Real Madrid, fans and stakeholders have been expecting a change of venue and a potential return of the Spanish Super Cup on the home soil but with the Royal Spanish Football Federation in good alignment with Saudi Arabia, the governing football body are set to extend the partnership beyond the current agreement which runs until 2029.
Diario AS reported that both parties are set for an additional five years extension, taking the partnership through to 2034 although negotiations are underway.

To further strengthen this partnership, a significant gathering convened dozens of Spanish coaches currently working in Saudi Arabia on the eve of the Spanish Super Cup in Jeddah.
Rafael Louzán, President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), addressed the attendees, expressing his gratitude for their presence and contributions. He lauded the coaches as “the best ambassadors of Spain and a great example of Spain for the world,” emphasizing the RFEF’s commitment to listening to their insights.

Saudi Arabia, the host nation of the Super Cup, presents an opportunity for the RFEF to foster shared knowledge and collaborative efforts with the country. Leveraging the dominance of the Spanish football model, reigning champions in both men’s and women’s international competitions, the RFEF aims to strengthen training initiatives and mutually beneficial partnerships.
This pioneering meeting in Jeddah proved highly valuable. The number of Spanish professionals working in Saudi sports organizations, including the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, has witnessed exponential growth in recent years. Notably, Lluís Cortés, a renowned Catalan coach, has been leading the Saudi Arabian women’s national team since 2023. His firsthand experience provides valuable insights into the remarkable growth of women’s football in the nation, marked by increased access, greater equality, and a significant enhancement in technical quality.
