The two teams went head to head on the night coming off the back of contrasting results.
Al Ahli has returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Al Feiha while Al Nassr dropped their first points of the season in a 2-2 stalemate with Al Ettifaq.
The plan was obvious from the beginning as Al Ahli surrendered possession and played on the break, catching Al Nassr’s high line as early as the 7th minute.
A line breaking pass from the middle of the pitch found Galeno running behind the Nasrawi’s high line before squaring to Ivan Toney who scored into an almost empty net.
The lead was doubled in the 20th minute when Ali Majrashi’s long ball caught the visitor’s defence very high on the halfway line.
Toney once again was there to pick up the ball, control calmly before slotting past Nawaf Al Aqidi in goal for the Nasrawi.
It was a well deserved two goal lead for the hosts who had been all over their visitors and were only two up due to profligacy in front of goal.
The deficit served as a wake up call for Jorge Jesus’s men who then grew slowly into the game after going two down.
Their effort was rewarded in the 31st minute thanks to Abdulrahman Al Sanbi’s howler in goal. The Saudi Arabian goalkeeper fumbled Abdulelah Al Amri’s long range shot to give the away side a lifeline.
Just before halftime, Al Amri was once again on hand to level the game as he rose highest to a Marcelo Brozovic corner kick before heading past the goalkeeper for his and his side’s second of the night.
In the opening ten minutes of the restart, Al Ahli reclaimed the lead from a well planned set piece.
Matheus Goncalves whipped in a ferocious effort from the right, the ball found Toney who flicked back into the area for Merih Demiral to head home.

It was going to be the last goal of a thrilling encounter and ultimately the winning goal that condemned Jorge Jesus’ side to their first defeat of the season.
Ali Majrashi and Nawaf BU Washl both saw red in added time with seven other players picking up a caution in the game.
Al Nassr will cede first position should Al Hilal win their game against Damac on Sunday.
