Al Ittihad could have won 3-1 against Al Fayha on Friday night, but the game witnessed a disappointing start from the home side.
Karim Benzema’s return to the line up was marred by a missed penalty kick in Al Ittihad’s victory over Al Fayha.
The 36 year old stepped up in the 20th minute against Vladimir Stojkovic in goal for the visiting team and saw his kick saved by the Serbian.
The team went on to win the game 3-1 with the Frenchman providing the assist for the winning goal.
Manager Marcelo Gallardo during his post match press conference defended Benzema over the miss and assured his records from the spot are well documented.
“Benzema agreed with Hamdallah to take the penalty kick, and unfortunately the ballonette was missed.. The two of them are distinguished by shooting balls, and I give them the opportunity to make the decision on the field, according to the calm player.” Gallardo said when asked on who is the outright taker.

“Fofana felt pain in his leg and I hope he recovers as soon as possible.” Gerrard said.
