Stockholm Diamond League: Mondo Duplantis Cracks Up World Record, Femke Bol Re-sets Meet Record

This year has been great for many athletes especially for pole vaulter Mando Duplantis and hurdler Femke Bol who have continued to make this events their own.

At the Stockholm Diamond League in Sweden, home boy Mando Duplantis continued his dominance stamping his authority as the Numero uno of the sport.

Duplantis broke his own outdoor world record after clearing a height of 6.16m in the men’s pole vault in front of a home crowd in Sweden.

He broke it by a 1 centimeter to 6.16 meters after his second attempt with a near-perfect jump. His old record of 6.15 was set in September 2020.

“I wanted to come here and try to do something special,” he said after adding 1cm to the best outdoor vault in history. “I felt I was in shape and that I have a great support here in Stockholm, where I live now so that means so extra more.

“I had a huge advantage of competing on my home turf. It is hard to describe it really. I feel like I am definitely in shape to win my title and maybe to do something special in Eugene. I am in a great shape and it is all about building to the world champs.

In the 400m hurdles, Olympic bronze medalist with another great performance showed why she should be the focus on this category at the world championship.

Her Season’s Best of 52.27s obliterated the Diamond League Record, Meet Record, becoming the second fastest time she has ever run to win.

“It was a good race, but not perfect yet”, said Bol shortly after her race. I don’t remember everything about the race, but I do remember that the first five or six hurdles went really well and that I hit the last hurdle. I am therefore very happy with this time and I hope to show something very special in Eugene.”

Jamaican Rushell Clayton finished well behind in second in 53.90. The third place went to Anna Rizhikova from Ukraine in 54.33.

She is second behind American Sydney McLaughlin who recently ran a world record of 51.41 this year.

In the men’s 400m hurdles Brazilian Alison dos Santos clocked a 46.80 to break the meeting record and achieve the world lead.

It is also the sixth fastest performance in history and quicker than Warholm’s meeting record.

The Olympic bronze medalist to beat CJ Allen who clocked 48.28s while Kyron McMaster was third in a Season’s Best (SB) of 48.58s.

“I was expecting such a time and I feel ready for the championships now and it will be very exciting in Eugene. I think about the world record every day, every night. I dream of that.” He said.
