“Crystal Palace have agreed terms with teenager Malcolm Ebiowei, with the 18-year-old winger set to join Patrick Vieira’s squad from 1st July, when his current contract with Derby ends, on a five-year deal.” The club released via their official website.

The 18 years old who left crisis riddled club Derby County at the end of his contract joins Patrick Vieira’s Eagles as one of the many young players that have chosen Selhurst Park as their home.

Ebiowei follows in the footsteps of fellow Nigerians descents, Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze who both joined the London club last summer.

The eighteen year old has represented both the Netherlands and England at youth level but is eligible to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria because of his Nigerian roots.

He has previously played for London giants Arsenal and Chelsea at youth levels before moving to Rangers of Scotland from where he joined Derby County under Wayne Rooney who gave him his senior bow.

He played fifteen times for the club last season in the Championship and scored a solitary goal.

Meanwhile…

Ebiowei acknowledged the role his previous club played in his development and he was quick to appreciate the now relegated side for the impact they had on his career but did open up that he needed to secure his future.

“I’d like to thank everyone at Derby County for their incredible support over the last year or so, and for giving me the opportunity to show what I can do on the field, and I’d also like to thank the fans for their encouragement especially given the circumstances of last season.

“As everyone is aware the situation is very uncertain at Derby, so it was important for me to secure my long-term future.”

He added: “I’m incredibly excited about the prospect of joining Palace, as they have an incredible squad and huge potential. I very much hope to contribute positively to the team this season.”

Chairman Steve Parish said of Ebiowei’s arrival: “I’m delighted that Malcolm has chosen Crystal Palace as the best place to continue his development, following his impressive breakthrough into senior football in recent months. He is a highly coveted young player, and we very much expect to provide a platform for him to flourish at the highest level.”

Patrick Vieira will hope to get the best out of the young attacker who can fit in anywhere upfront.
