The Audio From The VAR Booth For The Inter Milan VS Genoa Match Has Been Released

Written By Onyeka Daniel

On the 29th of December last year, Inter Milan played a 1-1 draw away to Genoa at the Marassi stadium and there was controversy surrounding Inter’s goal with plenty of agreement that the goal shouldn’t have been allowed for an infringement in the build-up.

More Details

Now, the VAR audio from the incident, with a potential Yann Aurel Bisseck foul in the build-up, has been released by DAZN but Gianluca Rocchi’s assistant Andrea Gervasoni said it should have been reviewed at the pitchside monitor.

Marko Arnautovic gave Inter the lead before the break, but it could have been disallowed for a Bisseck push on Kevin Strootman in the build-up. VAR official Massimiliano Irrati reviewed the incident while Genoa players protested referee Daniele Doveri on the pitch. Irrati was heard saying:

“Let me see this possible push; give me another angle….no, this one, no.” Inter’s attack continued and Irrati checked if Nicolò Barella had touched the ball with his arm and if Arnautovic was offside.

“Let’s check. This is not a handball. There is no handball here. Now let’s see if somebody was offside. Can you also give me a camera to see if that was a handball? No, leg. Dani, Massi, the goal is valid. You can resume play.” Rocchi’s assistant, Gervasoni, was in the DAZN studio on Sunday night to comment on Irrati and Doveri’s decision but admitted the referee should have watched the potential Bisseck foul at the pitchside monitor.

“This season, we disallowed a goal in Verona–Lazio for a similar incident, with a VAR check. Nicolò Casale had pushed the opponent with two arms, and we said these incidents should always be checked as they could be punishable offenses.

“Probably, Massimiliano [Irrati] saw it as a light push, but as a commission, we thought that in order to be coherent and transparent, the referee should always review a push with two arms. So, in this case, the referee should have checked the incident at the pitchside screen, and I think he would have decided to disallow the goal.”

Nevertheless, Gervasoni confirmed his trust in the “experienced” Irrati, who is regarded as the best VAR official in Italy, and said the 44-year-old worked “really well technically.” Gervasoni also said Inter should have had another goal disallowed last week, when Alessandro Bastoni elbowed Hellas Verona‘s defender Ondrej Duda, prior to Davide Frattesi’s late winner. The VAR audio for that will also be released soonest for review.

Meanwhile…

Former Inter Milan and Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal has hit out regarding the lack of playing time for Alexis Sanchez. Speaking on Twitch, the Chilean suggested that he had warned his international teammate not to return to Inter last summer. Sanchez decided to return to Inter during the summer transfer window.

The veteran former Arsenal, Manchester United, and Barcelona forward had only left Inter twelve months earlier. He had departed via a termination of his contract with severance pay. Sanchez had an eye-catching season at Marseille. But then, the 34-year-old decided to come back to Inter. And the club welcomed him back.

Sanchez seemingly had “unfinished business” at the San Siro. And Inter entrusted the Chilean as a player with a lot of experience to provide a backup to the main attacking options, as well as a different profile among the forwards. So far this season, Sanchez has played now and then. And there have even been a couple of moments of real quality – including in the Champions League, where he has scored twice.

But on the whole, Sanchez has largely been a backup option. He has little chance of displacing Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram. Vidal proclaimed, “Alexis, if you’re listening to me please leave Inter.” “He should never have went back to Inter,” the former midfielder continued. “I even told him that.” “He should have gone to a club where he could enjoy playing. Where he could be loved by the fans. “But he’s stubborn,” Vidal continued.

Of Martinez, Vidal called the Argentine “A good striker. But how can Alexis not play for Inter?” “Mkhitaryan plays and not Alexis,” he went on. “How is that possible?” “I want to kill myself at the thought of that,” declared the ever-outspoken midfielder. “It makes me angry, Alexis is too good for that.”

“I’d rather see him at River than at Inter,” Vidal said. “He has to go somewhere he can play, where he can enjoy his football. Where they really want him.” “He’s only happy if he plays, so he’s not happy.” “And his teammates aren’t they’re better than him,” Vidal opined. “But the coach just doesn’t want him.” “Otherwise how does he only play with nine minutes left in matches? It’s infuriating!” He further added.
