‘The Important Thing Is To Play’ – Chelsea Star Told To Leave Club

Written By Albert Echatah

Cesare Casadei, a Chelsea midfielder, has received advice from his Italy Under-21s manager to leave Stamford Bridge during the January transfer window.

More Details

The 21-year-old signed a €20 million (£16.8 million) contract with Inter in 2022, but he didn’t play for Chelsea until January after spending last season on loan at Reading and Leicester City, both of which were coached by Enzo Maresca.

Casadei declined Chelsea’s offer to go on loan in the summer and has not played in the Premier League this year. He has only made two appearances, one each in the Europa Conference League against Gent and one against Barrow in the Carabao Cup.

The midfielder gave Italy Under-21s the lead against the Republic of Ireland in their European Championship qualifying match earlier this week.

And now, if Casadei doesn’t get more playing time, the team’s head coach, Carmine Nunziata, thinks he’ll have to depart Chelsea during the upcoming transfer window.

‘Last year Cesare had a good first part with Leicester, then he went to Chelsea and played little,’ Nunziata told Rai Radio 1 Sport.

‘This year they kept him there, I advised him to see how it goes until January, otherwise it’s right to look around for another solution.

‘The important thing is that the boys play. If they find a team in Italy, even better.

‘But the experience abroad is also formative. For example, after playing in Switzerland, I found [Mattia] Zanotti to have improved a lot and grown a lot.’
