There Could Be A Slight In Change In Plan For Inter Milan In Their Pursuit Of Top Transfer Target

Written By Onyeka Daniel

It has now been already established that the top priority for Inter Milan in this summer transfer window, in terms of signing is to bring in a backup goalkeeper, to compete with Yann Sommer and possibly replace him over time and the club has been making moves towards that direction.

More Details

Their pursuit has brought them towards former RB Leipzig keeper, Josep Martinez, but there so a significant gap between what they’re offering and what his club, Genoa is willing to accept.

Consequently, the Nerazzurri Inter Milan are offering Genoa Martin Satriano, Gaetano Oristanio, or Niccolo Corrado as part of a deal for the Spaniard, according to Secolo XIX. The Nerazzurri have been seeking a goalkeeper who is young in the hopes of sorting out the long-term future at the club between the posts.

Athletico Paranaense and Brazil keeper Bento had been a major target for Inter. However, the Nerazzurri have moved on to Genoa’s Martinez. And according to the report, a move to Inter is now very close for the Spanish international. The negotiations between Inter and Genoa regarding Martinez have moved forward very rapidly.

Genoa’s valuation of Martinez is around €18-20 million, same value for Bento, but unlike the Brazilian, whose contract will expire by this year December, the former RB Leipzig keeper’s current contract with the Grifone runs out at the end of next June.

Inter, on their part are only ready to pay between €10 to €13 million plus add-ons. To bridge the gap, the club is ready to include one or two players in the deal. Genoa have already shown interest in both striker Martin Satriano and attacking midfielder Gaetano Oristanio, the Uruguayan especially.

But they may be beaten to the punch for his signature. This is because French club, Stade Brestois is about to embark on their first European adventure, following their qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League, so they’re looking to shore up their squad for the challenges ahead.

There is an uncertainty surrounding the situation of Satriano. He spent last season on loan at the club, and even though he wasn’t the most prolific, netting only four goals for Les Ty Zéfs in Ligue 1 last season. However, his contribution is considerable both out of possession and in build-up.

It is therefore no surprise that Brest want to keep Satriano, however, it may be difficult to do so. The striker was only on loan at Brest from Inter Milan last season and they will therefore have to negotiate with the Serie A side to retain the player.

However, Inter are demanding around €10m for the forward, according to Ignazio Genuardi, whilst clubs in Italy, Spain and Germany are also considering a move for Satriano. They might try to negotiate the figure down, but a deal is expected to be struck.

For Inter and Genoa, there are two more players that could be part of the deal, Niccolo Corrado and Mattia Zanotti. Corrado spent the season just gone on loan with Modena, while Zanotti played in the Swiss League with St Gallen and is of huge interest to Lugano.

Meanwhile…

Teenage Slovenian midfielder Luka Topalovic will train with the Inter Milan senior squad during preseason this summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. The report also has it that Topalovic will then play with the Primavera side next season. Slovenian teenager Topalovic is a player who’s come onto Inter’s radar in a big way.

The Nerazzurri have not been the only club to show interest in Topalovic’s signature. But they are on the verge of winning the race to sign him. Topalovic only recently turned eighteen years of age. However, he has already been a regular in Domzela’s first team for several years.

Having made his first senior appearance for the Slovenian club in 2022, Topalovic has made a total of 51 appearances. He has scored three goals and made six assists for the club. Topalovic has yet to win a cap for Slovenia’s senior team. However, the 18-year-old has been a regular at various youth team levels, up to Under-19.

Inter have an agreement in hand to sign Topalovic. It is only a matter of time before the Slovenian makes the move. But the question then is what Inter’s plans are for the teenage midfielder. According to the Gazzetta, Topalovic will get experience with the senior team right away. The report has it that the 18-year-old will participate in the preseason training with senior teammates.

Topalovic can also help make up the numbers whilst there are some players returning late from international tournaments. However, naturally, Inter’s plan is not to have Topalovic go straight into the first team next season. Rather, the teenager will begin life at Inter by playing for the Primavera or Under-19 team starting next season.
