Thomas Tuchel’s Odds Of Being Named New England Gaffer Revealed

Written By Albert Echatah

After speaking with the Football Association, Thomas Tuchel expressed interest in taking over as manager of England.

More Details

Since leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the previous season, when his club finished 18 points behind Bayer Leverkusen and failed to win the Bundesliga, the 51-year-old has remained unemployed.

Tuchel has been planning his comeback to the dugout and has been strongly linked to the vacant England job. Tuchel previously coached in England with Chelsea, a Premier League team.

German media site Welt TV reported over the weekend that negotiations were in progress, and Sky Sports has now confirmed those rumours.

According to The Telegraph, Tuchel is eager to take over, but the FA must take swift action because he has been earmaked as Erik ten Hag’s successor in the event that the Dutchman sacked.

Following his team’s devastating loss in the July Euro 2024 final, Gareth Southgate departed, and England is currently searching for a permanent replacement.

Lee Carsley, the under-21 manager, was named temporary manager for England’s six Nations League matches, but a shocking 2-1 loss to Greece on Thursday hurt his hopes of being hired on a permanent basis.

The former Everton midfielder was evasive when asked if he wanted the position full-time, despite Carsley and England’s 3-1 victory over Finland on Sunday.

After Sven-Göran Eriksson and Fabio Capello, Tuchel would become the third non-British coach to lead the men’s national team if England were to appoint him.
