ESPN claims that talks between the two parties are continuing to bring the 36-year-old back to the United States, even though an agreement has not yet been achieved.

When Ream’s Fulham contract expires in the summer of 2025, Charlotte will have to pay the Premier League team an undisclosed transfer fee.

The USMNT defender moved to Craven Cottage in 2015 after leaving Bolton Wanderers, and he has played 312 games for the London team in all competitions.

Due to a calf injury sustained in December, the center-back was only able to play in 21 games for Marco Silva’s team this season, scoring just once.

Ream’s extensive European experience helped him establish himself as a vital member of the USMNT, as evidenced by his 56 caps and four World Cup starts in 2022 in Qatar.

Since taking over at Charlotte in December 2023, former Aston Villa boss Dean Smith is prepared to offer Ream a significant part in his team’s defence. With 25 points from 17 games, Charlotte is presently ranked fifth in the Eastern Conference standings. In those 17 games, they have only let up 18 goals.

With a club option for 2027, the 24-year-old Brazilian is now signed through the 2026 MLS season.

“We are proud to see Célio’s growth through our pipeline”, sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel said in a press release. “He has grown as a professional, both on and off the field, and to reap the rewards with a new contract was something he worked really hard for. Celio continues to elevate his game each and every day and we hope that he doesn’t stop raising the bar.”
