Tottenham Contact Cagliari For Nandez

Tottenham Hotspur has joined the race to get Uruguay Midfielder Nahitan Nandez with Spurs director Fabio Paratici entering talks with Cagliari.

The 25-year-old looks to have burnt all his bridges after he refused to show up for a friendly against Mallorca in solidarity with his move to Inter Milan. He was consequently dropped for the game against Pisa.

Nandez later released a statement to explain his part of the story and also requested Cagliari keep to their words. But he is currently training alone at home.

Now according to Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Nandez could have found a way out as Spurs have joined the race for the Uruguay international and former Juventus sporting director Paratici wants to give Nuno Espirito Santo a new midfielder.

Cagliari has placed a price of about €35m in the player’s release clause, with Inter hoping to get a discount which has made the deal drag for long.

However, several reports claim Spurs would be keen on making an offer that will see the Uruguayan join the club initially on loan with an obligation to make the deal permanent. Whether this will be enough to see them trump Inter Milan to land the player remains to be seen.

Report from Estadio Deportivo via A.S. TransferMarketWeb claimed the Uruguayan defender is in advanced negotiations with Real Betis.

The Cagliari defender, however, should heavily cut his salary. The offer would be a two-year plus option for the third year of one million euros per season.

The center-back spent most of his career with Atletico Madrid before the free transfer to Inter in 2019, then another move to Cagliari a year later with a contract to June 2023 but his continuation at the Sardinian side’s look blurry as they cannot afford to maintain his salary after the pandemic.
