Trafford Transfer Saga Nears Conclusion As Newcastle Close In On Burnley Goalie

Newcastle United are preparing a final bid for James Trafford and plans to hold new talks with Burnley officials soon.

Newcastle recently secured their first summer signing, Anthony Elanga, from Nottingham Forest.



Newcastle United signed Elanga for an initial fee of about £52 million, with an additional £3 million available in performance-based add-ons.

Newcastle United’s recruitment team are aiming to secure James Trafford before their upcoming friendly against Celtic at Parkhead next weekend. Discussions for the goalkeeper are expected to resume shortly.

Burnley previously declined Newcastle’s initial offer of approximately $27 million, seeking a higher transfer fee for the 22-year-old. Despite Burnley’s recent promotion, Trafford is expected to depart Turf Moor.

Burnley reportedly want a few in the region £40 million for the transfer, but Newcastle are unlikely to pay that amount upfront. Instead, Newcastle is preparing a deal that could reach the £40 million valuation through performance-based add-ons.

If the transfer goes through, goalkeeper James Trafford is expected to challenge Nick Pope for the starting position at Newcastle. Pope has indicated he plans to stay at the club and compete for his spot.

Futhermore, Newcastle United are looking to strengthen their squad this summer by adding another center-back and a forward.

They are still very interested in signing Giorgio Scalvini from Atalanta, who is valued at $‌50 million. They also need a replacement for Callum Wilson, who recently left the club as a free agent.
