According to reports from Football Insider, Chelsea are keeping a close eye on Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali.

The Blues are reportedly eager to bolster their squad with established Premier League talent and have identified the 25-year-old Italian international as a primary target.

However, fans shouldn’t expect a move immediately; sources indicate that Chelsea is viewing Tonali as a long-term addition for the Summer 2026 transfer window rather than the current January period.
Securing his signature may prove difficult, as Tonali is currently committed to Newcastle until 2029 following a recent contract extension.
Chelsea is eyeing Sandro Tonali to strengthen their squad depth, as they feel overly reliant on the starting trio of Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo, and Enzo Fernandez.
With Andrey Santos viewed as needing an upgrade and Romeo Lavia’s persistent injury issues causing worry, Tonali has become a primary target. His proven Premier League track record and excellent form this season make him an ideal candidate.

Despite interest from Chelsea, Newcastle United expect Sandro Tonali to stay, believing the club’s support during his long-term gambling ban warrants his continued commitment. Consequently, a move to West London seems unlikely unless the Blues submit a substantial financial offer.
Tonali isn’t the only figure at St James’ Park on Chelsea’s radar, however; reports suggest the club has also made inquiries regarding manager Eddie Howe. These moves come as Chelsea searches for a successor to Enzo Maresca, who vacated his position on New Year’s Day.
Maresca’s exit from Chelsea was fueled by his dissatisfaction with the club’s board, whom he accused of interfering too much in his managerial duties. While the 48-year-old Eddie Howe is a top candidate for the vacancy, uncertainty remains over whether he would abandon Newcastle mid-campaign for a position at Chelsea, a club famous for its high managerial turnover.
