Trinity Rodman Eyes NWSL Return Amid Recovery And Contract Talks

Written by Oluwaseun Oyediji

As the NWSL gears up for its weekend return, Washington Spirit forward Trinity Rodman is inching closer to a comeback after a prolonged absence due to chronic back issues.

More Details

Rodman, one of the Spirit’s marquee players, has not featured since April and has only appeared in four matches this season.

She recently resumed training, marking a significant step forward in her recovery.

“It was very difficult — and I think too — trying to function through pain, and kind of gaslight myself to thinking it was fine every day, when it wasn’t,” Rodman shared after a Spirit practice earlier this week.

“Obviously, it sucks being away from the team and being away from soccer,” she continued.

“But I got to work on things that I wouldn’t have gotten to work on if I was in the team environment all the time, so I think that was a positive.”

The 22-year-old has been managing persistent back pain since helping the USWNT to Olympic gold last summer.

Her current deal with the Spirit runs through the end of 2025, and while she is already in active contract negotiations with the club, reports suggest growing interest from overseas.

“I’m trying not to stress about it or put too much pressure on it, because at the end of the day, I’m worried about health first, and then everything else can come next,” she said regarding her contract situation.

Rodman’s return would be a significant boost for Washington Spirit, currently ranked fourth in the league.

As the team pushes toward the postseason, her recovery and contract talks will remain key storylines in the second half of the NWSL season.
