After missing out on the signing of Giovanni Leoni to EPL club, Liverpool plus the fact that the trio of Matteo Darmian, Francesco Acerbi and Stefan De Vrij are not get any younger, the idea is to bring in at least one centre-back either in January or later next year in June with January a preferred option.

This is to give the new signing some time to acclimatize to his new environment before taking over fully from next season, but it is always hard to get top quality players during the winter, most especially because of the little time that they will have to work with.

Consequently, the club is keeping a close eye on Dayot Upamecano’s situation at Bayern Munich, as uncertainty grows around the defender’s future with the Bundesliga champions. According to Sky Sport DE, negotiations between Upamecano’s entourage and Bayern remain at a standstill.

There is no agreement yet on salary and agent commissions despite a new deal already being drafted and the French international’s current contract runs until 2026 but without progress in the coming months, a free transfer next summer cannot be ruled out.

“The figures requested for renewal are on the table – now it’s up to the club to decide whether to improve the offer,” the German outlet reported and Bayern sporting director Max Eberl is reportedly working hard to secure an extension but the standoff has alerted several top clubs across Europe.

Among them is Liverpool, Barcelona and Inter according to the report and for the Nerazzurri, they’re not expected to move immediately. However, the club’s recruitment team have been exploring potential long-term defensive targets ahead of next season as requested by Christian Chivu.

The 26-year-old remains a key part of Bayern’s backline under Vincent Kompany but his unresolved future could open opportunities for Europe’s elite and Inter are among those watching carefully, but he’s not the only target on their radar as another revelation was made recently.

According to reports from Italy, the Beneamata are among several clubs tracking Sassuolo defender Tarik Muharemovic, following confirmation from the Neroverdi’s sporting director Francesco Palmieri that interest in the player is rising across Europe after a strong performance from him.

Speaking to TRC Modena, Palmieri praised the Bosnian centre-back as one of the club’s standout discoveries, revealing how little Sassuolo paid to sign him. “A great signing – we paid less than €4 million,” Palmieri said, describing the deal as “a major coup” for the club.

Gazzetta dello Sport and UOL Esporte have previously linked Inter with the defender who has impressed this season with his composure, strength, and ability to play out from the back and now, Palmieri acknowledged that Inter are among those monitoring him but stressed that competition for his signature is growing.

“Several clubs have asked about him,” the Sassuolo director admitted. He also spoke about fellow defender Jay Idzes, whose signing has gained global attention due to his popularity in Indonesia. “We signed him because he’s a strong centre-back,” Palmieri explained.
