Udinese Set To Appoint Fabio Cannavaro As Their Manager
Written By Onyeka Daniel
In what was largely an expected report, Italian side, Udinese have officially sacked their manager, Gabriele Cioffi and brought in World Cup winning Italian defender, Fabio Cannavaro as a replacement. The Friulian side have been in disastrous form this season.
More Details
The early decision to sack Andrea Sottil back in September did not pay off, with his replacement Cioffi failing to find a rhythm either, managing just four wins and 10 draws across his 23 league matches in charge. Udinese’s latest outing was a possibly decisive 1-0 loss to fellow relegation candidates Hellas Verona.

This result leaves them 17th in the Serie A table, tied on points with 18th place Frosinone, leaving them in a tough spot in the battle to avoid the drop. Today, the club decided to dismiss Cioffi after 24 matches in charge, making a change to try and avoid relegation with just 5 matches left until the end of the season to try and save their season.
Earlier reports had confirmed the imminent arrival of Cannavaro, who is ready to return to the dugout after more than a year on the sidelines. The 2006 World Cup winner was filmed arriving at the club’s headquarters this morning.
There’s no report on the length of the contract he’s going to sign at the club, but his primary task will be to avoid relegation, starting with their next game against Roma (just 18 minutes plus added time) on the 25th of this month before facing off against Bologna three days later Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.
Then they will face Napoli at the Bluenergy Stadium, travel away to Lecce, at home against Empoli before rounding it up with an away fixture against Frosinone, in what could be a potential relegation decider for the two teams fighting to stay up for next season.

Sky Sport Italia reports Nicolas Burdisso will leave Fiorentina at the end of his contract in June and Roma coach Daniele De Rossi would love to reunite with his former teammate at the Stadio Olimpico. Burdisso, currently serving as Fiorentina’s technical director, will leave the Tuscans in June, according to reports.
The former Inter Milan and Roma defender has decided against extending his expiring contract at the Stadio Franchi. He is on good terms with the club, but according to the report, he wants a new experience with more responsibility.

The Argentine intends to work as a sports director and be allowed to make decisions independently. According to the report, De Rossi would love to work with his former teammate again. DDR and Burdisso spent a few years together at Roma and the former defender was a Boca Junior director when De Rossi briefly moved to Argentina in 2019.
Sky Sport clarifies that there have been no contacts between Burdisso and Roma and that the ex-defender would love to move to the capital, but only if the coach and the directors make the decision, not just because he’s a friend of De Rossi. Roma announced last week that DDR would stay at the club beyond June 2024, while Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso has confirmed that Daniele Pradé will remain as the club’s sporting director for next season.
