For the first time in 2024, World champions Spain suffered defeat after a 2-1 loss to the Czech Republic in their fifth group game of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 Qualifiers on Friday.

La Rojas which had won their previous four games and sealed qualification for the Women’s Euros with two games to spare opened the scoring from FIFA World Best, Aitana Bonmati from Lucia Garcia’s assist in the 15th minute at the Letni Stadion na Zadnicj Vinohradech, Chomutov.
A minute before the halftime break, Michaela Khyrova set up Katerina Svitkova for the equaliser.
Six minutes into the second half, the host took the lead as Eva Bartonova put them ahead from the spot.

A red card issued to Irene Paredes in the 70th minute compounded Spain’s woes condemning the world champions to their first loss since a 3-2 defeat in the hands of Italy.
Their last loss came during the UEFA Women’s Nations League match on December 1, 2023, before they went on to clinch the title.
After seven games without a loss, their invincible ended ahead of am expected keenly contest at the Olympics this month.

They will end their qualification campaign against Belgium on July 16 before heading to France for the women’s football event of the Olympics.
In Group C, Spain will face Japan which defeated the 4-0 at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Nigeria, and Japan at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
As world champions, they remain one of the favourites to dethrone Canada for the gold medal.
