Today, the club released a medical update on the player who had undergone medical tests in the morning. “Hakan Calhanoglu underwent an MRI scan this morning at the Humanitas Clinical Institute in Rozzano following his substitution in yesterday’s match against Roma. The tests revealed a strain in the adductors of his left thigh,” Inter said in a statement.
“His condition will be monitored on a day-to-day basis.” According to Sky Sport Italia correspondents Matteo Barzaghi and Andrea Paventi, Acerbi has been diagnosed with the same injury. This means both players will miss Wednesday’s Champions League game against Young Boys.
Also, they are in serious doubt for the next Serie A match against Juventus on October 27. Barzaghi wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that Calhanoglu and Acerbi “are 90% out” of the Juventus match, but there is a slight chance for the midfielder. The timeline would be tight for him to recover.
He will first have to recover and then get back in training ahead of a top of the table clash against the Bianconeri at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium at the weekend, but first, Inter must face Swiss club, Young Boys in the UCL. For Simone Inzaghi, he will likely provide official fitness updates at the pre-match press conference tomorrow.
Calhanoglu gave Inter a big scare yesterday, owing to his importance, but the team adjusted well and brought the result home to keep pace with the leading pack at the top of the Serie A table. After the match, the Inter coach admitted that he would have started Kristjan Asllani in place of Calhanoglu had the Albanian been available.
This was because of some stiffness Calhanoglu had been feeling in his thigh in the last few days. The Nerazzurri have plenty of matches right on the way, therefore, the important question concerns when exactly the Turkish international can return. But another midfielder, Piotr Zielinski will be fit for the UCL clash on Wednesday.
Another player who won’t return is Asllani. The Albanian suffered a knock in training last week. He missed the match against Roma and will still be out on Wednesday. That leaves Inzaghi without both holding midfielders in Calhanoglu and Asllani. But there is one piece of good news for the Nerazzurri coach.
It has been reported that Zielinski available after he missed yesterday’s win at the Stadio Olimpico. The reason for the Pole’s absence was a thigh strain. He had picked up the problem during the international break. However, Zielinski’s injury is not a serious one, but the coach decided not to risk it.

Therefore, he has always been targeting the match against Young Boys as a potential return date. Hence, according reports, the signs are very positive for the 30-year-old former Napoli and Empoli midfielder. This will definitely give Inzaghi a bit of breathing room as far as the squad rotation is concerned during a very busy run of fixtures.
