It was a bright start for defending champion Daniil Medvedev as he downed Stefan Kozlov 6-2, 6-4, 6-0 to reach the second round.

He will play Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in the second round following his comfortable win on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Francisco Cerundolo was no trouble for former US Open winner Andy Murray as he lost 5-7, 3-6, 3-6
It was Murray’s first Grand Slam match straight sets win since Wimbledon 2017.
“It felt like five sets to me, it was tricky conditions, very humid and hot.
“But I’m happy with the way I got through that one. He has had a brilliant year, I knew I had to play well and I did that in the important moments.”
He plays 20-year-old American wildcard Emilio Nava next.
Qualifier Yibing Wu ousted 31st seed Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-3, 6-4, 6-0.
It was the first Grand Slam second round for the Chinese.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina deeated Yoshihito Nishioka 6-3, 7-5, 6-3 to reach the second round.
Matteo Berrettini beat Nicolas Jarry 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 to go through to the second round.
Fifth seed Casper Ruud outclass Kyle Edmund 6-3, 7-5, 6-2 to reach the second round.
At 6-7(4), 7-5, 5-1, 30th seed Maxime Cressy retired due to injury against Marton Fucsovics.

Qualifier Brandon Holt (son of former World No.1 Tracy Austin) stunned 10th seed Taylor Fritz 6-7(3), 7-6(1), 6-3, 6-4 to reach the second round.

It was the world No.303 Brandon Holt’s first ever tour-level match against the No.10 seed Taylor Fritz.

Daniel Elahi Galan ousted fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-0, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5.

It was the Colombia’s first match in the US Open main draw and he got a big win.
