The United States Women’s National Women’s (USWNT) announced the 26-player roster for the final camp of 2023 on Monday, and quite a few veteran players won’t be present.
More Details
Alex Morgan, Crystal Dunn, Becky Sauerbrunn, and Alyssa Naeher were all left off the December roster in favor of more post-World Cup call-ups.
While it’s true every camp is a chance for players to make a case for major tournament inclusion, this isn’t the first December USWNT roster to give older players a rest.
Lynn Williams will be the forward with the most caps in camp, just as she was in 2021 when former head coach Vlatko Andonovski took a similar approach.
“None of the players left off the roster are out of the mix,” USWNT interim manager Twila Kilgore told the media this week.
Meanwhile…
With the veterans getting a rest, the USWNT will have a chance to introduce a few fresh faces in camp in December.

2023 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Rookie of the Year Jenna Nighswonger received her first USWNT senior call-up, as did 20-year-old PSG midfielder Korbin Albert.
Mia Fishel, Jaedyn Shaw, M.A. Vignola, and Olivia Moultrie all return to the roster after getting their first call-ups following the World Cup.
The roster also features 2019 World Cup champion Abby Dahlkemper, who returned to the NWSL from back surgery in August.
Also returning to the fold is 2023 NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year Jane Campbell, who fell out of the rotation after the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
