Carli Lloyd, a legend of the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT), was among five individuals inducted
into the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

More Details

The ceremony took place on Saturday in Frisco, Texas. The class of 2025 includes Lloyd, Nick Rimando, Chris Armas, Mark Abbott, and Mary Harvey. All five were honoured for their contributions to the sport.

Djorn Buchholz, the Hall of Fame’s executive director, said, “We’re proud to honour these champions of the game. Their passion and dedication have helped grow soccer across the US.” He added that they have left marks at all levels, from international competitions to building professional leagues.

Their work reflects the true spirit of the Hall of Fame.

Lloyd, who won two Olympic gold medals and two FIFA World Cups with the US women’s team, has also been named FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year twice. At the 2015 World Cup, she received the Golden Ball award for best player.

“I can’t think of a bigger honour than representing my country,” Lloyd said. “Yes, it was tough. I made many sacrifices. But every moment was worth it. I loved the game, learned lessons, built relationships, and gained memories beyond my dreams.”

Rimando played in 553 MLS games over 20 seasons and earned 22 caps for the US national team from 2002 to 2015.

“I stand here not because of my records,” Rimando said. “It’s because I never stopped believing through setbacks and rejection. My story shows you’re more than what others say.”

Armas, who played in MLS from the league’s start, was part of the Best XI five times. He played in four MLS Cups, winning once. He made 66 appearances for the US team from 1998 to 2005. Now, he is the head coach of Colorado Rapids.

“People ask if I love to win or hate to lose,” Armas explained. “I don’t really know. What I do know is that I always gave my best in pursuit of victory.”

Harvey was the goalkeeper for the US team that won the first FIFA Women’s World Cup in 1992. She also earned a gold medal at the 1996 Olympic Games.

“I learned that the national team is about excellence,” Harvey said. “It’s about being your best, supporting your teammates, and doing great things together. I challenge those I coach to understand how what they say and do affects the team and their success.”

Abbott served as MLS President and Deputy Commissioner from 2013 to 2022. He was also league vice president for business affairs. He spent the entire first 30 years of MLS working for the league.

“I enjoyed my job and did a lot of exciting things,” Abbott said. “But what I valued most was being part of a community. Our goal was to make the league as accessible as possible.”

The ESPN broadcaster Bob Ley was named the recipient of the 2025 Colin Jose Media Award but could not attend because of an injury.
