USWNT Prospect Apologizes For Social Media Activity

PSG midfielder and the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) prospect Korbin Albert apologized on her Instagram story on Thursday for social media posts she called “offensive, insensitive, and hurtful.”

Albert had garnered criticism for reposts on her public TikTok that included amplifying anti-LGBTQA+ rhetoric.
“I’m really disappointed in myself and am deeply sorry for the hurt that I have caused to my teammates, other players, fans, friends, and anyone who was offended,” she posted.
Albert wore the #15 for the USWNT during the 2024 Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup, a number popularized by Megan Rapinoe.
Rapinoe made a post she confirmed to the Athletic was influenced by Albert on Thursday, asking “are you making any type of space safer, more inclusive, more whole, any semblance of better, bringing out the best of anyone?”
Rapinoe’s post was shared by former and current USWNT players like Sam Mewis, Lynn Williams, Becky Sauerbrunn, Abby Dahlkemper, and Alana Cook.
The USWNT has taken collective stances on civil rights in the past, notably championing a “Protect Trans Kids” message during the finale of the 2022 SheBelieves Cup, which was hosted in Texas.

USWNT will be in action during the Shebelieves Cup next week against Japan.

The winner will meet either Canada or Brazil in the final match.
Should Brazil beat Canada, it will be a repeat of the maiden CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup final where USWNT emerged victorious.
Three friendlies have been scheduled for June and July against South Korea (twice) and Mexico for the record World champions.
