Record world champions, United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) had to rely on penalties to beat Olympics champions, Canada in the final of the 2024 SheBelieves Cup on Wednesday.

The final match rekindle the semi final clash between both sides in the maiden CONCACAF Gold Cup with more competitive display.

It was also the show of Adriana Leon and Sophia Smith who both scored two goals.

Canada broke the deadlock in the 40th minute from Leon who capitalised on mistake between American player and goalkeeper, Alyssa Naeher to score the opener.

Five minutes into the second half, Smith equalised with a left footed shot from the edge of the box which reached the bottom left corner.

She gave her side the lead in the 68th minute from a pass by Trinity Rodman.

Leon’s 86th minute penalty took the match into penalties where USWNT emerged victorious 5-4.

Smith at the end of the tournament emerged as the Most Valuable Player.

Brazil had earlier won the third-place match after a 3-0 win on penalties against Japan.

The Copa America Femenina champions had to come from behind after Mina Tanaka scored the opener for the Nadeshikos.

Tanaka also had the opportunity to double the lead from the penalty spot but she missed the spot kick.

Cristiane equalised for the Selecao from Yasmim’s assist in the 71st minute which took the game into penalties where Brazil won 3-0.
