United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) boss Emma Hayes dropped her 23-player SheBelieves Cup roster, with the annual international tournament’s lineup showcasing the team’s immediate strengths and broader strategic approach.
The United States (US) will be without veteran midfielder Rose Lavelle (ankle) and center-back stalwart Naomi Girma (calf) when games against Colombia, Japan, and Australia kick off next week, while frontline trio Triple Espresso (Sophia Wilson, Mallory Swanson, and Trinity Rodman) has yet to return to the USWNT since the Olympics.
The roster represents Hayes’s first competitive group since early December’s European friendlies, as a shifting US team sets off down the long road to the 2027 World Cup.

“There’s no point in me sitting in two-and-a-half years time and saying actually, if there was an injury to key players, have I prepared the entire playing pool adequately?” Hayes told reporters.
SheBelieves will feature four uncapped players — Claire Hutton, Michelle Cooper, Gisele Thompson, and Tara McKeown — after the youth national team products made an impression at last month’s Futures Camp.

“I want to see what they look like within the Women’s National Team (WNT) setup to determine, do they have the necessary qualities right now to be in the WNT, or do they go back to the Futures come April,” Hayes added.
While the US is far from short on big-name players, Hayes is currently guiding the team through a much-needed experimental stage, balancing the risks and rewards of long-term development while laying the groundwork to enact World Cup revenge in Brazil.
