USWNT To Face Japan Three Times In Spring Friendly Series

The United States women’s national team will take on Japan in a rare three-match friendly series this spring, as U.S. Soccer continues to line up high-level opposition ahead of a busy 2026 calendar.

More Details

The series will open on April 11 in San Jose, California, before moving to Seattle on April 14 and concluding on April 17 in Commerce City, Colorado. The U.S. currently sit second in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings, while Japan are ranked eighth.

U.S. head coach Emma Hayes welcomed the challenge of facing the same elite opponent multiple times in quick succession.

“Playing the same opponent three times is unusual but it presents a great challenge and a chance to test ourselves against a top-quality opponent,” Hayes said.

The friendlies come shortly after the 2026 SheBelieves Cup, where the U.S. will face Argentina, Canada and Colombia beginning on March 1.

The fixtures also offer an immediate opportunity for redemption after the Americans’ most recent meeting with Japan, which ended in a 2–1 defeat for the hosts in the final of the 2025 SheBelieves Cup in San Diego.

“Japan is one of the best teams in the world,” Hayes added. “I’m a big admirer of how they play and I have tremendous respect for their team.”

Ticket presales for all three matches begin today at 10 a.m. local venue time, with general sales opening on Thursday at the same time.
