Vancouver Whitecaps' Ryan Gauld Nominated For MLS MVP Player Award

Whitecaps FC nominees for the Landon Donovan MLS Most Valuable Player award are led by Ryan Gauld.

With 22 goal contributions (11 goals, 11 assists) since May 31, the Scotsman leads all MLS players. Gauld is a complete player who has produced remarkable defensive numbers for one of the top attacking players in the league.

Gauld currently ranks first in tackles in the attacking third (19) and is tied for 16th overall in MLS with 63 total tackles. Following a vote by journalists, club technical staffs, and MLS players—each group receiving 33.3% of the overall vote—the champion in each category will be decided.

Players and members of the club technical staff are not allowed to vote for members of their own squad. Following the conclusion of the MLS regular season on Monday, October 23, voting will begin on Tuesday, October 10.

Three additional categories, including the MLS Golden Boot presented by Audi given to the player with the most goals at the conclusion of the 2023 MLS regular season, the AT&T MLS Goal of the Year and the MLS Save of the Year presented by Allstate. These awards are in addition to those chosen by the journalists, technical staff, and players. Voting by fans will begin on October 30 and end on November 6.

John Herdman has been officially named the new coach of MLS based club Toronto FC. Starting on October 1st, the 48-year-old will take over as Toronto FC’s next head coach in the MLS.

Herdman became the coach of Canada in January 2018 before leading the North American giants to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, their first appearance in 36 years.

“I’m keen to start this new opportunity with Toronto FC,” he said. “It’s the right time for a new challenge.” Toronto fired former head coach Bob Bradley in June and are currently towards the bottom of the MLS standings.
