Nigeria’s senior men’s national team, the Super Eagles, booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a convincing 2-0 victory over Algeria at the Stade de Marrakech on Saturday.

Second-half goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams sealed Nigeria’s fourth consecutive win of the tournament, bringing an end to the Desert Foxes’ title hopes in Morocco.

Eric Chelle’s side dominated proceedings in the first half, controlling possession and creating several clear-cut chances but failing to find the breakthrough before the interval.

Akor Adams came closest, racing through on goal in a one-on-one situation, only to fire his effort over the crossbar.

Nigeria’s pressure eventually paid off just two minutes after the restart.

Bruno Onyemaechi delivered a precise cross from the left, which Osimhen met with a powerful header to put the three-time African champions ahead.

The Super Eagles doubled their advantage in the 57th minute through a moment of unselfish brilliance from Osimhen.

The striker turned provider, setting up Adams, who calmly rounded Algerian goalkeeper Zidane and slotted into an empty net to make it 2-0.

Algeria attempted to mount a response, but Nigeria’s defence remained resolute, frustrating the North Africans and preserving a deserved clean sheet.

With the win, Nigeria advance to the semi-finals where they will face host nation Morocco on Wednesday, January 14, as they continue their quest for a fourth AFCON title.
