The award is voted by the fans and is duly deserved after the Brazilian scored four goals in five La Liga matches. During the presentation of the award, Vinicius gave a few quotes to MARCA where he analyzed the upcoming derby:

“We are working hard to get to the match in good shape. All the effort we have made in the preseason counts and is the key, in addition to the good blend of experience players mixed with the younger players,” said Vinicius.

The Brazilian winger discussed his hopes for the current campaign after winning the double the previous year. “I am very excited for this season and I am hoping that it will be the same or better than last season. I have the confidence of everyone and the coach, who always tells me to have confidence in front of goal”.

Vinicius will be the player to keep an eye on leading up to the Madrid derby because of all the controversy surrounding his dancing celebrations and in-game deception.

While Neymar has defended his fellow countryman Vinicius, Koke has spoken out about the response Vinicius can anticipate. Atlético Madrid will have a difficult job preventing Vinicius from celebrating if he keeps up his stout form.

On October 2nd, Spanish giants Real Madrid will call a meeting of its socios to approve Amancio Amaro, who is currently 82 years old, in the position of honorary president in place of Paco Gento.

The board approved the initial nominee on September 12. Amancio will take over as the club’s ninth honorary president.

Amancio spent fourteen years playing with Real Madrid’s first team (1962-1976). He joined Real Madrid as a young winger from Deportivo de La Corua and went on to become one of the team’s ‘ye-yé’ era captains, helping them win the European Cup in 1966.
