Washington Spirit booked their place in the 2025 NWSL Championship Game with a composed and clinical 2–0 victory over Portland Thorns in the playoff semi-final.

The breakthrough came in the 27th minute after a brilliant, surging run from Rosemonde Kouassi, who sliced through the Portland backline before setting up Gift Monday to finish confidently and put the Spirit ahead.
Despite Portland pushing for a response, Washington remained disciplined and dangerous on the counter.
Their persistence paid off late in the match when Croix Bethune doubled the lead in the 84th minute, sealing the Spirit’s place in the title decider.
With the win, Washington Spirit continue their impressive postseason run and advance to the NWSL Championship Game, where they will look to cap off their superb campaign with silverware.

It is their consecutive appearance in the NWSL Championship final after same feat last season ending in defeat against Orlando Pride.
