The move includes a transfer fee paid to Martínez’s former club, Club Olimpia of Paraguay’s top-flight league.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity Washington Spirit is giving me at this new stage of my career,” Martínez said. “I’m very happy to be joining such a respected institution in women’s soccer at a global level.”
Martínez arrives in Washington after two impressive seasons with Club Olimpia, where she scored 10 goals in 25 appearances. In both campaigns, the teenager played a key role as Olimpia finished inside the league’s top two. She began her senior club career in 2023 with Sportivo Ameliano before making the move to Olimpia.

Spirit General Manager Nathan Minion highlighted the forward’s experience and long-term potential.
“For someone so early in her career, Claudia has a lot of great experience and the potential to develop into a top player,” Minion said. “Her qualities in the attack make her a great fit for the Spirit and we look forward to welcoming her to DC.”

Born in Capitán Bado, Martínez has also made a strong impression on the international stage. She represented Paraguay at various youth levels before earning her senior national team debut in July 2024. At the 2024 Copa América Femenina, she announced herself in style by scoring a hat trick in Paraguay’s opening match against Bolivia, helping her country finish in the top five of the tournament.
The Spirit are looking to strengthen their squad as they build toward the 2026 season, following a second consecutive appearance in the NWSL Championship.
They will open their regular-season campaign at home on Friday, March 13, hosting Portland Thorns FC in a rematch of last season’s dramatic home semifinal.
