Following Al Ahly’s 4-2 victory over Al Masry in the Egyptian Premier League match day 32 on Friday, the club’s director of football believed his side faced a lot of difficult circumstances throughout the season, which caused us to drop many points in our journey to defend the title.
In his post-match interview with Al Ahly’s website, Sayed Abdelhafiz gave his opinion on some of the reasons that might have impacted the team’s performances in this season’s league campaign.
More Details…
“We faced a lot of difficult circumstances throughout the season, which caused us to drop many points in our journey to defend the title.”
“On the contrary, we performed well in the other competitions that we played in. We are able to win the CAF Champions League title for two consecutive times; in addition to, winning the bronze medal in the previous FIFA Club World Cup. All these achievements are a result of the hard work done by our coaching staff and the players.”
“Looking back on how the league went, we won’t accept to play with the same condensed schedule of games that we had this season. However, we also have to change the way we dealt with several league games, as we lost a lot of easy points.”
“I think we paid much attention than we should to this season’s CAF Champions League competition and that negatively impacted us in the league. We will take that into consideration when we begin preparing for the next season.”

Finally, Abdelhafiz concluded his interview by calling for equal treatment by the Egyptian Football Association when they plan for our upcoming games in the Egyptian Cup.
Meanwhile…
Al Ahly’s football first-team assistant coach, Sami Komsan said the club’s fans are their biggest motivator.
In his post match interview after Al Ahly’s 4-2 win over Al Masry on Friday, Komsan reflected on the previous phase of the season and talked about the condensed amount of games that the team played in a short period.

“It’s impossible to maintain the same performance and physicality throughout the whole season with the number of games that we play.”
“I don’t look for excuses but this is the reality. We were overwhelmed with the number of games we played in a short period. We played a lot of games in March and April. Also, we were competing in the CAF Champions League.”
“You can’t win every competition you compete in. However, we try to do our best. Thank God, we were able to win various tournaments in the past like the CAF Champions League title.”

“We have three important competitions coming up in the next period. We still have to play in the Egyptian Cup, Egyptian Super Cup, and the CAF Super Cup.”
“Our fans are our biggest motivator. They’re great. They always stand next to us, in the bad times before the good.”
Al Ahly are presently 4 points adrift league leaders, Zamalek with two games to spare and will need Zamalek to drop four points from their last two games while they win theirs if they’re to defend the league they’ve won five times in a row.
