English Premier League side, Chelsea may be getting their pound of flesh back against Barcelona after extending the contract of their defender, Cesar Azpilicueta.
More Details
The Spanish defender, who previously had a deal that was going to expire in 2023, was constantly linked with a move to Spain as Barcelona were said to be plotting a double swoop of him and Marcos Alonso.

But the English side have now managed to convince the player to extend and a two-year deal was announced few days ago.
This could be in retaliation from the Blues after losing Jules Kounde and Raphinha to Barcelona, as both players preferred a move to the Camp Nou rather than join Chelsea.
But according to Barcelona director, Mateu Alemany, the Blaugrana already had a deal with Azpilicueta, but the player was obviously convinced that his future lies with the club.
After previously indicated an openness to letting the player decide his future at Stamford Bridge after his previous contract was automatically extended in London in June.
“We had an agreement with Azpilicueta on personal terms but Chelsea didn’t want to sell him,” Alemany said. “We have other options but I can’t mention any names.” He further added.

On the other hand, the Blaugrana will be able to sign another Chelsea defender, Marcos Alonso, whom they’ve targeted alongside Azpilicueta.
