“We Need To Cancel Out Some Things That Happened In The Past So That We Can Bring The Results”

It was a thrilling encounter at the Allianz Stadium as the Derby d’Italia gave a good show of the Italian football, ending in 4-3 in favor of Juventus who had to come from behind for the win and we also saw the Thuram brothers mark their first full match against each other in Serie A with a goal each.

For IInter Milan coach, Cristian Chivu, he insisted that he saw ‘positives’ from the defeat but also feels they need to cancel out what happened in the past to shake off that anxiety as they had managed to twice fight back from a goal down to go 3-2 up thanks to the Hakan Calhanoglu double.

However, the home side were revitalised after spending much of the second half pinned back into their own box, as Khephren Thuram was allowed to nod in a free kick and Vasilije Adzic popped up with a long-range rocket in stoppages. “I think we had a really good performance in the first and second half,” Chivu told DAZN.
“Unfortunately, there are moments in the match, especially in the final 10 minutes, where we were lacking. Overall, we came here to take the initiative, play with character, try to win and not settle for less. We lacked sharpness and didn’t realise something different was required in the last few minutes.” He continued in his post match interview.
This was the second consecutive Serie A defeat for Inter, who had also fumbled an advantage to lose 2-1 against Udinese before the break for international duty. “We should’ve dealt with certain moments better, as from the start Juve were never ashamed to boot the ball into the crowd when they were in trouble,” Chivu revealed.
“It’s about understanding when you should and shouldn’t do certain things during a match. If you used up a lot of energy to turn a game around, you should control it differently in that situation. It’s about experience, but we want to look at the positives, even if we return with the regret of being empty-handed.”
If there is a positive from tonight for Chivu, it is the return of Calhanoglu, who scored two fantastic individual goals and took control of the midfield after a summer of tension. “I think the performance and character of the whole team was a positive. Calha did what we all expected, because this is his quality, it’s what he gives to the team,” insisted the coach.
Is there a psychological frailty in the squad that might still be suffering after the 5-0 Champions League Final loss to Paris Saint-Germain? “I saw good things tonight and in the second half against Udinese, even if we didn’t pick up points. We keep going, we need to cancel out some things that happened in the past so that we can have the calm and focus to bring home results.”
“I cannot complain about how hard the team is working, that is for sure.” He further added. Alessandro Bastoni also spoke to DAZN after the game, answering some questions about the match. “When you concede four goals, the only thoughts you have are negative ones. We were a bit unlucky in certain incidents and could have done better.”

“We deserved to get more. On the other hand, perhaps it’s better to take these defeats early on because the season is still long.” He was asked what happened in the last ten minutes of the game as they were 3-2 up heading into the closing stages before two late goals from the Bianconeri turned the game on its head for another defeat at this same stadium.
“I don’t know what happened. We were a bit tired towards the end but after conceding four times, it’s difficult to speak highly of the performance. Now the Champions League restarts in a few days. We need to be good at understanding what we did wrong and start again.”“I speak for myself and for me it’s a different season,” the defender said.
“I carry last year with pride having been to the Champions League final. At the end of their career not every player can say that. Of course we wanted to win, but I don’t think theres any ‘debris’ left from what happened.bOf course, today, after you play a dominant first half and end up 2-1 down, there’s not much you can do.” He further added.
“Let’s hope we have a little more luck in the future and move forward.” Bastoni admitted his side lacked “ruthlessness” in the final ten minutes to close the game out after saying. “On the field you could feel that we were superior to them even in our attitude.” The Italian defender concluded.
