Since the appointment of Simone Inzaghi as coach of Inter Milan, the former Lazio manager has won a trophy at the club in every single season, but he probably got the recognition he deserved last season when he clinched the Serie A title, ahead of city rivals, AC Milan, with some games to spare too.

Consequently, several clubs showed interest in him, but he’s expected to continue with the club, as confirmed by their newly elected president, plus, it’s no secret that the two parties are already in talk over a new contract. According to Beppe Marotta, Inzaghi will stay, despite recent reports over his long drawn contract talks.

His current deal will expire in 2025, so he has just one season left to stay, but the management has prepared him a new deal that rewards his exploits from last season with a pay rise. According to the reports, there is no agreement yet, but both Inzaghi and his agent have expressed optimism over his future, so they could resolve the matter in their next meeting, which is reported to be set for tomorrow.

Ahead of what could be a crucial summit, Marotta remains confident about his coach’s future. The 63-year-old, who has previously worked as director at Sampdoria and Juventus, revealed that the club intends to keep Inzaghi for years to come. He also insists that the manager is happy to linger at the club.

“With Inzaghi, we began a cycle a few years ago and we’re not even halfway there,” said the Nerazzurri President. “We want to continue with him and he deserves it. He’s happy with Inter and we’re happy with him.” Inzaghi has been Inter’s head coach since the summer of 2021, arriving as a replacement for Antonio Conte.

Marotta, who was recently appointed as president by Oaktree after taking over from Suning, made these statements during a ceremony that saw him receive the Golden Star Award for sporting merit. He also confirmed Inter’s unquenchable desire for trophies.

“We don’t just want to win. In our DNA, there is the obligation to compete to win. This is something that we can learn from our history. “We will always respect our opponents, but we are starting a winning cycle.” He further added. The club will also be looking to satisfy their manager’s request in the transfer window, and the top priority right now is to sign a defensive cover for Tajon Buchanan.

According to a new report from Italy, the new owners, Oaktree have budgeted around €10m for this, but with the condition that the player is either young or doesn’t earn much in salary, which is why the primary target, Mario Hermoso is almost ruled out. With Bayern Munich rejecting their loan offer for Kim Min-Jae, the likes of Olivier Boscagli, Jakub Kiwior and Lorenzo Pirola have suddenly gone up the list of favorites.
