“We Want To Qualify For The World Cup” Guinea Bissau’s Dalcio Declares After Early AFCON Exit

It was an early exit for Western African country, Guinea-Bissua from the ongoing AFCON in Ivory Coast as the tropical country was dumped out of the tournament, after placing fourth in a group that also had Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria and host Ivory Coast.

They lost all of their group game, but the focus has quickly shifted to qualifying for the World Cup in 2026. It will be jointly hosted by 16 cities in three North American countries: Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
They lost their first match to the host, Ivory Coast (2-0) and the second to Equatorial Guinea, 4-2 before losing their final game to Nigeria 1-0 courtesy of an own goal. For APOEL Nicosia forward, Dalcio, the aim is now to make it into the World Cup in two years time, while expressing his disappointment at their early exit from AFCON.

In an interview with Bettitude, the player was asked how it felt like to crash out early in the tournament as the game and the tournament didn’t go as expected; “It is a bit sad” he replied. “Because we didn’t qualify, but I always say, ‘everything is possible’. “Look at Equatorial Guinea winning 4-0 against Ivory Coast, so I just want everything to be better for the next game.”
For the World Cup qualifiers, there are in group A, alongside Egypt, Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia and Djibouti. He was then asked the next mission for the team, “To qualify for the World Cup is our mission” he replied.
He was further quizzed on the possibility of that happening, “yes I think we can” he further added. They are currently 3rd in the group, with four points, 2 points less than Egypt, who occupy the first and automatic spot going to the Mundial.

There is also a chance to qualify via the playoffs, but they will to place second with the best points amongst the other teams in the same position to qualify for the playoffs.
